South Africa waives visa requirement for Kenyan passport holders

Kenyans can breathe a sigh of relief after South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Nairobi and announced a waiver of visa requirements for Kenyans travelling to South Africa beginning January 2023 for a maximum of 90 days annually.

South Africans have since 2017 been able to visit Nairobi without a visa for up to 90 days. It is a reciprocal gesture.

Other than high costs of South African visas, Kenyans will be spared the hurdle of extended processing period of at least five days.

The decision could strengthen Kenya’s passport which in July was ranked among the favourite in Africa.

Mr Ramaphosa was received at Statehouse by his host President William Ruto.
