Airtel Money increases mobile money transfer fees across networks

Airtel Kenya which haf 17.9 million subscribers in June 2023 announced Wednesday that consumers withdrawing money between Sh101-Sh500 on other networks would spend Sh25 now, up from Sh22.

Sending money from Airtel to Airtel will remain free of charge.

The development comes after the government introduced a 15 percent excise duty tax on transaction fees charged on money transfer services by cellular phone providers.

Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, managing director at Airtel Money Kenya, said the rates are still affordable compared to what its competitors are offering in the market.
