Sportpesa seeks to enjoin the Cofek vs BCLB petition on Opera Mini

Sportpesa, trading as Milestone Games Ltd, has sought to join the Cofek petition against the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) on stopping advertising on the ‘speed dial’ product of the Opera Mini browser.

Sportpesa is the gaming giant owned by Kasarani MP Capt (Rtd) Ronald Karauri. It was initially run as Pevans Ltd before some directors like Paul Ndung’u left shareholding.

Other parties in the matter include Communications Authority, Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Justice Lawrence Mugambi is yet to decide on the Sportpesa application.

KRA verbally sought the leave of Court to be struck from the list of respondents arguing tthat they didn’t understand the case.

The case follows an initial letter that COFEK wrote to BCLB detailing the challenges it had with the Opera Mini browser
