Hey COFEK: Safaricom’s 2026 ‘Capture the Good” Photography Competition was Biased

I am seeking COFEK's assistance and independent consideration of concerns arising from the 2026 Capture the Good photography competition organised by Safaricom PLC and the M-PESA Foundation.

I participated in the competition and submitted an entry titled “The Confidence to Learn.”

The issue I am raising is not simply dissatisfaction with my score or the outcome. It concerns the administration of a public-facing competition in which participants were invited to participate under published Terms and Conditions and judging criteria.

I have documented concerns regarding:

· the apparent application of the published anti-staging requirement;

· consistency in the application of the published judging criteria;

· changes to the competition timeline;

· aspects of the national judging process;

· and the organisers' response when these concerns were raised.

I raised the concerns directly with the organisers in August.

Their response has been that the judges are independent, their decision is final and non-negotiable, and that there is no requirement to provide participants with detailed scoring reports.

I accept that judges may have final subjective discretion over artistic assessments. However, I believe that is separate from the question of whether the competition's published rules were administered consistently.

I would therefore appreciate COFEK's assessment of whether this matter raises a consumer-protection concern and whether the Federation would consider raising the matter with the organisers or the relevant regulator.

I am able to provide the complete documentary record, including the Terms and Conditions, my submission, correspondence with the organisers, their responses, competition timeline material and relevant screenshots.

I am not asking COFEK to determine who should have won. I am asking for an independent consumer-interest assessment of the process.
